Commercial property market 'demands open-ended fund'

A major finance company is looking to launch an open-ended property investment fund for the commercial market.

A leading asset management company is considering the launch of an open-ended fund in the UK commercial property investment market.

F&C Reit Asset Management currently focus on closed-ended funds, such as F&C Commercial and ISIS Property, but is now considering what opportunities are available for an open-ended offering, according to Citywire.

The move is designed to broaden F&C Reit's investor base, which is traditionally "more institutional", a spokesman for the firm told the publication.

"All of the vehicles managed by F&C Reit that are monitored by the IPD have beat their benchmark. We would like to bring their expertise to a wider market," the spokesman added.

The latest data on the commercial development market shows that there are signs of post-recession recovery, particularly in London.

Research from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors claims a net balance of 57 per cent of surveyors expect to see a rise in office rents this year in the capital.
