Salford council approves factory redevelopment plans

Salford City Council has approved plans for the commercial development of a former factory in the Quays area, it has been announced.

Two property investment firms have had their plans for the commercial development of an industrial site approved by Salford City Council, it is claimed.

In a joint venture, the Carlyle Group and Abstract Nikal will redevelop the old Colgate Factory in the Salford Quays area, according to PublicPropertyUK.com.

The new commercial development, which will be named the Soapworks, will bring 380,000 sq ft of office space to the Ivy Wharf mixed-use project.

Carlyle Group director Mark Harris told the website that the city council had been very supportive of the project.

"Our commitment to commence construction immediately on the Soapworks site as soon as we have full planning in place, reflects our confidence in both the project and the Manchester region," he added.

The Northwest Regional Development Agency announced earlier this year that it would provide a £10.8 million grant to help the local council to redevelop Salford's city centre.
