Commercial developments 'not adapting with sustainable technology'

Commercial developers must keep on top of the changes in the sustainable technology industry in order to lower carbon emissions, it is claimed.

Commercial development firms are not reacting quickly enough to the changes in sustainable technology, it is claimed.

According to SIG, a firm which supplies specialist products to the building and construction industry, new energy-efficient technologies are being produced all the time, but they will never become mainstream until construction firms start using them.

There is concern over whether this situation will change, after the government announced funding cuts for greener building technologies.

As part of its £6 billion reduction to public spending, the government has closed new applications to the Low Carbon Building Programme, which has been successful in encouraging property investment firms to use sustainable methods in construction.

SIG operations director Vince Lunn said that there are a number of innovative products out there which can really save companies money as well as contributing to lower carbon emissions.

Firms simply need to look at all the options available to them and consider all the benefits of such systems, he said.
