Cambridgeshire commercial property 'has a bright future'

Commercial property values in Cambridgeshire will continue to rise due to shortage of supply, it is claimed.

Property investment in the Cambridgeshire area has a bright future, despite the lack of new commercial development projects, it has been claimed.

There has been a dramatic increase in demand for commercial property in the area over the last year, which has led to a supply shortage, according to Alan Matthews of property agents Barker Storey Matthews.

Speaking to Cambs24.co.uk, Mr Matthews added that while freehold prices remain around 25 per cent lower than peak values achieved three years ago, the last 12 months has seen a 15 per cent rise in the cost of commercial property.

This trend will continue if there remains a shortage of stock in the market, he explained.

Fellow agent William Neal from Savills told the news provider: "There are deals to be done and, with a limited number of office units available for immediate occupation, those thinking about changing their office requirements should act fast."

Earlier this month, Standard Life Investments' investment manager Andrew Jackson warned investors that UK commercial property values would fall by up to five per cent this year.
