A new Asda commercial development has been recommended for approval despite local opposition to plans.
A proposed
commercial development by retail giant Asda has been recommended for approval, despite widespread opposition.
Cheltenham Office Park
property investment plans were in danger of being jeopardised in May, with objections from investors working on the regeneration of the nearby Coronation Square, reports the Gloucestershire Echo.
Speaking to the newspaper, parish council chairman Stuart Fowler underlined the local support for the new development.
He said: "I realise the councillors are being put in a difficult position with this last-minute objection.
"I hope they have the courage of their convictions and judge this application objectively."
Asda recently made headlines for another commercial development, which saw the retailer acquire the UK arm of the low-budget supermarket chain Netto for £778 million.
The deal, which could see Asda takeover all of its 193 stores, is pending approval from the Office of Fair Trading, which is not expected to make its announcement until later this summer.
