The former Rover site at Longbridge is to benefit from a £50 million commercial development project which will create hundreds of jobs in the area.
Commercial development plans for the former Rover site at Longbridge have been approved.
Detailed negotiations are underway with a major supermarket chain, who are looking to make a
property investment of some £40 million into the project, according to the Birmingham Mail.
The 80,000 sq ft development could create more than 500 jobs in the area - a vital boost for the community that was decimated by the MG Rover closure in 2005.
Bill Oliver, chief executive of site developer St Mowden, said it was great for the area of Longbridge but public sector cuts may make the project a bit more difficult.
"We have public sector tenants and work with lots of businesses who supply and trade with the public sector. The next two years is going to be a very challenging period," he said.
Earlier this week, St Mowden reported a return to profit, with £26.7 million being made in the six months to May 31st, compared to a loss of £98.3 million for the previous year.
