Crown Estate commercial development portfolio up 8.8%

Crown Estate's property investment portfolio is now valued at £6.23 billion, a rise of 8.8 per cent in the last year.

The value of the Crown Estate's commercial development assets has risen by 8.8 per cent in the last year, it has been announced.

This has been bolstered by the urban assets focusing on London's Regent Street, accounting for around two-thirds of the whole property investment portfolio, which rose in value by 14 per cent in the same time period, according to Property Week.

Crown Estate's total portfolio value now stands at £6.23 billion.

The commercial property investment market has been difficult, according to the group's chairman Sir Stuart Hampson, but the estate saw an opportunity in weak conditions and managed to secure deals that would enhance their value.

"It's also been a good time to be building, and we're seeing good progress with the Quadrant scheme in central London which is heading towards completion at a time when we expect more favourable letting conditions," he told the publication.

London mayor Boris Johnson has recently called upon private property investment firms to engage in business partnerships to help top regenerate London.
