£1.9m commercial development project begins in Bury

A commercial development project worth £1.9 million has begun in Bury.

Commercial development firm Russels Construction has begun work on a new £1.9 million project in Bury.

The commercial development will offer around 19,500 sq ft of laboratory and office space, as well as up to 92,000sq ft of grade A accommodation.

Work is expected to be completed in the final quarter of this year, but one tenant, LGC Standards, has already signed up to move its HQ to the new site.

"This is part of a major programme of investment in Bury town centre and is a welcome sign that the commercial property market is starting to move again," said Russels Construction managing director Andrew Russell.

LGC Standards general manager Liz Jordain told the Manchester Evening News that the firm is keen to relocate to a more modern purpose-built facility.

The director-general of the Federation of Master Builders Richard Diment recently claimed that the fall in construction activity seen in the commercial property investment sector is not a surprise, as many development firms remain cautious with their projects.
