Pontypridd receives £10.5m commercial development investment

Pontypridd is to use a £10.5 million regeneration fund to try to attract outside property investment.

The town of Pontypridd is to undergo a £10.5 million regeneration to help it attract private property investment.

Commercial property owners already in the town will be able to apply for up to 70 per cent of the cost of updating their buildings, the BBC reports.

In addition, public structures such as roads, pavements signage and lighting will be updated in a bid to encourage private property investment firms to consider commercial development projects in the area.

Councillor Paul Cannon, cabinet member for economic development and safer communities, said that the designation of conservation areas in the town illustrates the fact that it has an "outstanding architectural quality".

"We are looking forward to creative a vibrant shopping centre for present and future generations to enjoy," he told the news provider.

The Welsh Assembly Government recently announced it had appointed fund managers from Amber Infrastructure and Lambert Smith Hampton to oversee its EU-backed £55 million regeneration fund.
