Commercial development firms 'should consider energy efficiency'

Energy efficiency should now be a prime consideration for any commercial development firm, it has been claimed.

Commercial development firms should think carefully about the energy efficiency of the office space they are building.

Investing in products that are environmentally-friendly may mean commercial development firms have to invest more cash at the construction stage.

However, according to Euan Murray, general manager of the Carbon Trust Footprinting Company, the long-term economic and environmental benefits to the property investment as a whole are very beneficial.

Energy usage is becoming a key issue for many firms, with potential tenants likely to be put off by buildings that will increase their overheads.

"Quite often, the worst emissions hotspots aren't where people would expect, so it is important to identify where the biggest savings can be made and the best ways of going about making them," added Mr Murray.

The Investment Property Databank recently claimed that assets in prime locations would prove to be the best property investment opportunities, as they would survive any potential double-dip recession.ADNFCR-2843-ID-800035086-ADNFCR
