'Strand East' plans revealed

Plans were revealed recently for a large redevelopment of a 26-acre dilapidated brownfield site near to the 2012 Olympic site and Stratford High Street.

The Strand East property development is set to feature 1,200 new homes, with 15-storey buildings, a new 350-bedroom hotel, retail units, and a public sculpture. The first development phase has already secured planning permission. ‘Dane’s Yard’ will see the illuminated sculpture within a public square, and a restaurant will be operated by Graysons.

A planning application for the residential side of the development is expected to be submitted in early 2012. 40% of the homes will be three bedrooms or more set inside pedestrianized and landscaped walkways. Thus, it is hoped that the scheme will appeal to families rather than upwardly mobile professionals.

The scheme is still expected to be well connected, with a bus route and a bridge helping access to Bromley-by-Bow and Stratford High Street.

Harald Müller, Managing Director of developer LandProp, said of the plans:

"We are hugely excited to be bringing forward these plans, we see Strand East as a place for families which contributes to the regeneration of Stratford and takes its place alongside the many neighbourhoods of London."

"We have the highest ambitions for Strand East, the development will be on a human scale with much of the site characterised by low density town houses and mews homes connect by beautiful public spaces consisting of courtyards and squares, making the most of the waterways which surround the site."
